Job Description

 The Cancer RNAs and Epigenetic group (Head: Dr. Sabrina Fritah) at the Department of Cancer Research of LIH, is currently looking for a full time Laboratory Technician. Recently established, the laboratory focuses on understanding the role of epigenetic rewiring and RNA regulation in tumors, with the ultimate aim to develop innovative nucleic acid therapeutics against cancer.
We make use of advanced molecular and cellular technologies to identify novel targets and get mechanistic insights into disease pathways. We are seeking a highly motivated Laboratory Technician to support our projects by maintaining and overseeing the laboratory infrastructure, but also, by contributing with own experiments. The candidate will join a stimulating environment, participating in state-of-the-art research projects including different national and international collaboration partners.

Key Accountabilities

  • Carry out experiments relevant to different projects within the research group.
  • Analyze and report results and be able to engage by discussing results. 
  • Ability to coordinate ongoing lab activities in conjunction with the Principal Investigator.
  • Establish new protocols and generate validated SOPs.
  • Keep databases updated and find solutions to manage information efficiently if needed.
  • Share technical knowledge with students and the staff of the research unit to perform experiments with validated SOPs.
  • Monitor stocks of consumable materials (reception and storage of deliveries, drafting of purchase orders to be signed by the designated persons, research of information on the products to be ordered, etc.).
  • Be able to learn new laboratory techniques required for a project.
  • Participate in the development of new methodologies.  
  • Suggest initiatives to resolve or prevent technical problems in consultation with the project leader.

Qualifications & Key Skills 

  • Laboratory Technician’s diploma or alternative qualification (e.g. Master's degree in biomedical sciences)
  • A broad scientific interest and a wide range of technical expertise are expected, including e.g. cell culture, molecular biology (RNA and DNA related techniques, pulldowns), immunofluorescence, flow cytometry
  • Knowledge in the area of Epigenetics and/or RNA biology and/or hands-on experience in NGS technologies will be an advantage
  • Rigor, efficiency, team player, self-driven motivation, initiative taking, reliable, ability to think ahead
  • Willing to join a young and dynamic team 
  •  Fluent command of English (written and spoken)
