Job Description

We are pleased to collaborate with our client, an insurance company, to recruit a

Risk Officer (M/F)

The Risk Officer is responsible for all activities related to the global Risk management of a fast-growing commercial Reinsurance company located in Luxembourg City. Managed by a team of less than 16 persons, the Reinsurance company is owned by a large international financial group.

As a Risk Officer, you ensure that both risks inherent to reinsurance activities and risks related to the environment in which the Company or its group operates are identified, assessed, treated, monitored, and reported appropriately.

Within the Risk Management Department, we are looking for a Risk Officer with the following main tasks:

·         Identify, measure, mitigate, monitor, and report all type of risks, including mainly non-life
Underwriting risk, market risk, operational risk, and liquidity risk as defined under the Solvency II directive.

·         Participate in the development and implementation of the Operational Risk Management
Framework.

·         Perform detailed analysis of operational risk incidents and the underlying root causes (including the setup of meetings with business lines and drafting memo events), review the proposed action plans and follow up on the progress/completion. Maintain the Operational Risk event database.

·         Support the risk and control assessment process of the risk owners, challenge the proposed
assessment, and regularly report on the status of the risk.

·         Participate of the definition and the review of the key risk indicators within the Risk Appetite framework and its monitoring on quarterly basis.

·         Support the preparation of regular risk reports to the management and specialized committees.

·         Regularly review and update the different risk management policies.

·         Create and monitor the agreed corrective action plans.

·         Participation in the ORSA process (Own Risk and Solvency Assessment), Oversight Risk reporting and the Solvency II calculation.

·         Maintain the BCP and the DRP of the company.

·         Implement and maintain a risk culture, develop solution to mitigate the risk.

·         Assist the Chief Risk Officer in its risk oversight duties, liaise and interact with the Management, the other internal control functions and all the departments.

 

OBLIGATIONS
Qualified pursuant to the legislation related to the insurance sector law of 7 December 2015,
transposing the EU Solvency II Directive into Luxembourg law (specifically, the pursuant regulations presenting the requirements for a Risk Management Function)


REQUIREMENTS
Develop and maintain the risk management framework compliant with local regulation but able to comply also with group internal requirements


RISK OF NON-PERFORMANCE

Key position (I.e. involvement in complex and/or strategic files; risk mitigation role, risk of being noncompliant which Solvency II regulations, core line of business falling under AML/FT regulation …) that must be performed properly by candidate

 

FUNCTIONAL
Report directly to the Chief Risk Officer. Have direct access to the Underwriting and Risk Committee to present conclusions and reports as well as to the Member of Board of Directors for the Company in charge of the Risk Management Function.


INTERNAL
Work closely with the Compliance and Internal Control Managers as well as the Underwriting and Claims and Finance functions


EXTERNAL (AFTER 6 MONTHS)

Possibility to liaise with independent actuarial services providers and other service providers, external auditors, the Insurance Regulator (CAA), and reinsuran8ce business partners

 

BACKGROUND
Master’s degree (Masters in economics, statistics, actuarial sciences, or finance) or equivalent experience in (re)insurance or financial sector. Deep knowledge of risk management and a good understanding of how risk models, data and processes interact in Luxembourg.
Good command of MS Office: advanced knowledge of Excel is required.


EXPERIENCE
Minimum experience of 3 to 6 years in a similar function and in a country subject to the Solvency II Directive or equivalent regulatory legislation.

Experience in a risk management role, having worked with risk models in Luxembourg or the EU. Financial sector mandatory, Assurances sector is an asset.


LANGUAGES

French and English are mandatory (working language and administrative language of Luxembourg).

ADDITIONAL NOTES
Able to work in a small, growing team in Luxembourg that is part of a larger International group and to take initiative as needed.
